The Oregon Department of Energy will host a webinar on offshore wind basics on January 22 from 2-3 p.m. The intended audience for this webinar is decision-makers, energy industry practitioners, utilities and those knowledgeable about renewable energy.
The webinar will feature two presentations:
Bruce Hamilton, Navigant Consulting, will present a summary of the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2014 Offshore Wind Market and Economic Analysis Report, coordinated by Navigant. The presentation will discuss the state of the offshore wind sector internationally, in the Atlantic, policy developments and an economic impact case study.
Chris Elkinton, DNV-GL, will present an overview of offshore wind technologies, including turbines, anchoring and mooring, power cabling and the development trajectory for deep-water floating wind.
Rebecca O’Neil of the Oregon Department of Energy will moderate the webinar.
Chris Elkinton is a Principal Engineer at DNV GL and leads the technical aspects of the North American offshore wind group. His responsibilities include project development and due diligence services. Chris has worked in offshore wind for 13 years, starting with layout optimization research at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (Ph.D.). Chris joined Garrad Hassan (now DNV GL) in 2007 as a turbine technology engineer, conducting technical due diligence of wind turbines, and took on the lead technical role within the offshore wind team in 2012.
Bruce Hamilton is a Director in Navigant’s Energy Practice and has more than 30 years of experience in leadership positions with leading independent power producers, as well as with major energy companies such as General Electric and Exxon.
The Oregon Department of Energy reduces the long-term cost of energy for Oregonians. The department’s work includes conducting planning and analysis to help prepare the state for future energy needs, staffing the Energy Facility Siting Council, providing technical and financial assistance to encourage investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy resources, promoting the cleanup of the Hanford nuclear site, and ensuring state preparedness to respond to emergencies at energy facilities, during transportation of radioactive materials and in the event of petroleum shortages.
